Carolina Community Actions, Inc. operates Head Start programs in York, Chester and Lancaster counties.
What is Head Start?
Head Start provides comprehensive educational, health, nutritional, social and many other services to economically challenged children and their families in Chester, Lancaster, Union and York Counties.
Regardless of the severity, preschool age children with disabilities are welcome in Head Start, including:
- Blindness/Visual Impairments
- Deafness/Hearing Impairments
- Health Impairments
- Emotional Impairments
- Orthopedic Impairments
- Learning Disabilities
- Mental Retardation
- Speech/Language Impairments
Who is Eligible?
Children whose families' income falls within the income guidelines and will turn three years old before September 1 and will not turn five before September 1.
Our Facilities operate in accordance with U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, age, disability, religion or national origin.
Preference is given to four-year-old children. Our program also serves at least ten percent of children with special needs.
*For the locally designed program, parents must be employed or in school or employment training.
What Information is Needed To Apply?
The following documents will be required at the time of application:
- Child's Legal Birth Certificate
- Current Certificate of Immunization
- Parent or Guardian Proof of Income (2008 W-2 or current Pay Stub)
- Social Security Numbers for all household members
Locally Designed Program requires one of the following:
- Last two check stubs
- Educational or Employment Training Verification
